Thoughts Before Bed...
In the end, I prayed for her when she could no longer speak.
I don't know if she heard me, or knew that it was me.
She had been sent home to die, and was reclining in a hospitol bed...dark circles under her eyes...shrunken...looking older than her 94 year old mother that paced, constantly, for days, fingering her prayer beads, pretending to care.
More on that later.
I leant in...
Whispering...into her ear...
Like a (non-practicing...can't get that stuff outta mah head), genuflecting, Catholic should...
"Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those that trespass against us. Lead us not, into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory, for ever and ever, amen."
"Hail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou, amongst women, and blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus Christ. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death, amen."
Rinse, repeat, ten times...
Praying the rosary takes time. I had plenty. Hers was limited, and I knew it.
I wonder if she heard me, and if it gave her comfort.
I prayed the Rosary for her on Saturday night, at 10'o clock. She died, at 7:45, Sunday morning, April 23 rd.
