Add Me To The List...
...of homeschoolers. Probably should have done it a looooong time ago.
My youngest, long-haired, bohemian, artist child never did fit in with the deer-shootin', hi- n- tight, good ole boys 'round here anyway.
Maybe it's just his momma talkin', but I don't think it was challenging enough. He got to the point that he just WOULDN'T work, and he was driving his teachers to drink!
"I just don't understand, Miz Coonass! I ask him to get to it, and he just ignores me!"
I feel their pain, but I understand his point at times too.
I had noticed , on his last vocabulary test, that the bonus question spot was empty.
"Hey dude, what was the question?"
"Mom, that school is WAK! The bonus question, on a VOCABULARY TEST, was, 'What was the final score of our team's game last nite?' As IF I care!"
Can't hardly argue with that.
Particularly frustrating is the fact that he CONSISTANTLY, scores above his peers on standardized tests.
Eh...maybe "school" isn't for everyone.
For history and science, we're following the chapters in his textbooks, agumented with programs from The History Channel, and The Discovery Channel.
He's reading "To Kill a Mockingbird", and Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men" will follow.
He also gets a dozen or so big- ass vocabulary words daily, that he must define and use in a sentence.
He's started a blog, that he must up-date daily, using "code",etc..
Math, unfortunately, was never my forte'. I'm STILL looking for a tutor.
Oh! And he takes "driver's ed." three times a week! Woooo hooo!
He seems happier, and is doing well. That makes ME happy.
Hopefully, I won't fuk him up too bad.
